Think about Facebook and YouTube, put them together and you’ve got what the 451 Degrees movement is all about.
“The thing about Facebook is that you can get a message or request for your Dad and think, ‘Oh crap! What is my Dad doing on Facebook?!’” said Hollis Cameron, one of the lead video editors for 451 Degrees. “The great thing about the online community that we’re building is that it’s a niche market of people active and working in the nightlife industry.”
451 Degrees is a melding of professional and concise video content of the hottest events San Diego has to offer, coupled with an easy to use interface offering an embedded and customizable video player, original photo sharing program, updatable event calendar and many other applications fans and active members of the nightlife industry would find useful.
This company is the brain child of owner Patrick Giblin, who thought up this concept roughly a decade ago, only started executing and building his team for the past two. Since its launch, 451 Degrees has built a video archive of nearly 1,000 video clips of events, photo shoots and celebrity interviews.
“Right now our purpose is to be the premier video production company for San Diego nightlife,” explained Cameron. “The overall goal is to build an online community for people to connect and share information within the nightlife industry.”
Skimming through 451’s impressive video library, they have a knack for capturing the action and debauchery that downtown San Diego is known for. With lead on-camera personality Max Elbogen, the 451 crew is able to evoke honest feedback about club events as well as some shockingly sexy shenanigans from club goers.
“We don’t try to make anyone do anything. As soon as you turn the light on people, you never know what they’re going to do,” said Cameron while chuckling. “But we like people to relaxed and not stuffy—we just want people to do their thing.”
Although their focus currently is video production, the 451 Degrees beta website is already up and running. Users are able to create a profile, grab video clips to be used on their profile on 451 Degrees or their personal websites, link and email photos, send out email blasts and utilize the event calendar.
“We want to help people build their businesses,” said Cameron. “If you’re a production company or club in San Diego, odds are we have a lot of footage filmed at your venue or events.”
One of their newest applications, the customizable video player, is already being utilized by the On Broadway and DYSMD eMagazine websites. With this player users are able to specify which video clips they’d like to use, and are able to change them up based on their own needs. 451 Degrees videos can also be seen on the DJHere website, at Belo Nightclub and on surfshot.com.
