There a few things that most people must have when enjoying a night out at the club: great music, a nice size crowd and for me personally, a good drink. Saturday, January, 31 st at Belo was DYSMD Saturday and it delivered all of this and even a little more.
The most important thing for me is the music. There is nothing like hearing your favorite song and hitting the dance floor. Bottom line, people come to the club to dance, which is hard to do if you are not enjoying the music. Even the rhythmically challenged want to at least be able to bob their heads. The music was far from disappointing, I spent time in all of the rooms and at some point I heard a song that I enjoyed. Of course, the DJs played the songs that are new and popular, but they also found a way to include a few throwback songs that made me remember why I used to love them. Can't beat a good throwback!
One of the reasons the DJs are able to please the crowd musically is because the DJ booths are close enough for the DJs to actually make a connection with the crowd and feel their energy. DJ Rags, who has been a DJ for 15 years, says he likes working at Belo because he is close enough to read the crowd and see the songs they are enjoying and the ones they are not, which helps him determine his playlist.
DYSMD Saturday was far from a ghost town, which is definitely a good thing. If I wanted to be alone, I would have stayed at home. Belo is large enough to accommodate a large crowd, this way; you can walk around and mingle without feeling claustrophobic. “I came because I heard it was live, I like the crowd,” says Chris, a 23-year-old first-timer at Belo. It seems both the ladies and the men had a fun time,
22-year -old Alyssha said, “It's poppin, everyone is here!”
Even the bartenders were having fun Saturday night. The drinks seemed to be flowing no matter which room I was in. Even though drinks were plentiful, no one was sloppy drunk. The crowd was having fun, but under control. I'm sure we have all had one too many at one time or another, still, no one wants to be in a room full of drunks…NOT SEXY! “Q”, the dancing bartender says he has so much fun serving drinks he doesn't even feel like it is a job.
I would recommend stopping by Belo for the next DYSMD Saturday event. Come for the music and for a great time with friend s and be sure to stop by and see “Q” so that he can make you a South Beach martini. Check out dysmd.tv for the specific times and dates.
